CHR recently received a check in the amount of $400 from Sanibel Fellowship, a Christian Bible study group that meets on Sunday mornings at the Sanibel Community House. Pastor Mark Hutchinson, who leads the group, explained during the check presentation that Sanibel Fellowship is deeply invested in supporting the island community.

CHR’s Melissa Rice, Les Boyle, and Richard Johnson (L to R behind check) received $400 from Pastor Hutchinson (holding check in white shirt) and Sanibel Fellowship members.

“As a small group Bible study,” Hutchinson said, “Sanibel Fellowship wants to be a part of something outside of ourselves—something that would connect us with the Sanibel community and something that would practically help people in need on the island.”

Hutchinson found that connection through supporting CHR. “As a Christian group, we began to search for helpful ways to reach out to those in need. More specifically, we wanted to support a local organization that helped people get connected to the Sanibel community that otherwise would not be able to afford to do so. What better way to show that we care than by helping those who desire to live on the island to get into affordable housing.”

Richard Johnson, CHR’s board president, Melissa Rice, CHR board treasurer, and Les Boyle, CHR board secretary, received the donation on behalf of CHR. “The support and recognition of our mission by Sanibel Fellowship,” Johnson said, “of providing an affordable and appropriate place to live for our island workforce is not only heartwarming but it also shows the power in a small group of people to make a positive difference in the community where they live.”

Pastor Hutchinson and Sanibel Fellowship plan to support CHR through volunteerism as well. “After learning about CHR and their mission,” he said, “we felt very strongly that we should support them both financially and practically. Our people are very excited about being a part of the CHR family.”

Sanibel Fellowship meets at the Sanibel Community House every Sunday morning from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and is open to all. A typical morning consists of a continental breakfast and Bible teaching that is designed to help people to better understand the Bible and how it affects their lives in an informal and interactive environment where people are free to ask questions, share experiences, and establish friendships.
