Sanibel Island— The hustle and bustle of season may be over, but the slow-going rules of summer don’t apply to Sanibel Island’s affordable housing experts, Sanibel Community Housing & Resources (CHR).

The organization hosted several dozen community members for a unique open house event to kick off the summer season. Attendees toured a 3 bedroom, 2 bath Florida Green and LEED-certified Limited Equity Ownership (LEO) home located on Centre Street while enjoying cocktails and snacks compliments of Sanibel Catering by Bailey’s.

“A lot of people know that we provide rental housing but we wanted people to see an example of one of our Limited Equity homes. This program has given local families an opportunity for homeownership in a market which they could not have afforded otherwise.” says Kelly Collini, Executive Director of CHR.

The CHR office has a number of Open House events coming up during the next several months and the organization encourages the entire Island community to attend.

“We can’t wait for the folks on Sanibel to come and see what their donations and supporting efforts have created over the years” exclaims Collini, “the community truly makes a difference in the lives of many of our island neighbors and families.”

CHR is also already preparing for their seasonal premier fundraiser.

“Mark your calendars for February 11, 2017. The Sanibel CHR Mardi Gras is going to be the most talked about fundraiser and party of the year,” says Mardi Gras co-chair Arlene Dillon. “We’ve already proven that even a downpour of rain can’t stop the fun so trust me, you will not want to miss this event!”

If you are interested in volunteering for CHR’s Mardi Gras event, please contact Melissa Rice at 239-398-0404 or or Arlene Dillon at (239) 472-4392.

“We need carpenters, sewers, painters, crafters, decorators, creative minds and people who love to have a good time at work!”

Call (239) 472-1189 or email [email protected] for more information about all of CHR’s upcoming events.
