CHR Students Go Back to School Smiling

Thanks to a generous donation from the Sanibel-Captiva Optimist Club and Friends Who Care of Sanibel, school-aged children living in CHR homes received help with their back-to-school supplies. Each group donated Target and Walmart gift cards totaling $100 per child. 25 deserving students will put these gift cards to good use and start the new school year prepared and with smiles on their faces.

The donated gift cards were hand delivered to CHR’s offices by the groups so that each recipient’s parent could come pick up.

Kelly Collini, CHR’s Executive Director, explains “The rising cost of school supplies can be a big burden for many of our families, especially when they have multiple school-aged children. These parents are hardworking people who support our island community every day and most of them are living on very limited budgets. I know how much these donations mean to our CHR families and when they come to pick up the gift cards, they are so appreciative of the generosity of these groups.”

Donations from community partners and generous donors allow CHR to help its residents in many ways, including assisting with educational opportunities, during temporary financial crises, and making family life in CHR’s affordable housing program fun and rewarding for kids.

Kelly Collini, CHR’s Executive Director, and Kelley Riedy, CHR’s Development and Communications Director, were pleased to meet Optimist Club members at the Sanibel Recreation Center for a photo opportunity with a big check representing their donated amount.
