The Sanibel-Captiva Kiwanis Club recently presented Community Housing and Resources with a generous $2,500 in grant funding that helps CHR continue to offer programs and services on Sanibel.
Kiwanis has been a tremendous supporter of CHR, providing over $30,000 in grant funding over the last decade alone. Kiwanis grant money is utilized by CHR as general operating funds to cover the continual maintenance, upkeep and management of their 74 rental properties and has also been applied in the past in the form of a tenant assistance fund to help residents during specific times of financial crisis.
In addition to the grant money provided directly to CHR, this is the second year that the Sanibel-Captiva Kiwanis Club has opted to also provide a $1,000 “Hurricane” sponsorship of CHR’s Mardi Gras event, the organization’s only annual fundraiser coming up on Feb. 11 at The Dunes Golf and Tennis Club.
All of the funding directly benefits CHR’s ongoing mission to provide affordable housing on Sanibel for island workers and their families as well as longtime island seniors and residents with disabilities.
“The Kiwanis Club of Sanibel-Captiva is proud to be a supporter of CHR because we believe in its mission of providing affordable housing on the island. Kiwanis is all about helping children and out of the 150 or so people who enjoy CHR housing annually, around 50 of those are children,” said Les Boyle, Kiwanis Club board member and CHR board cecretary. “By being a part of providing the basic human need of housing to children, CHR helps Kiwanis meets its objective, and Kiwanis helps CHR meet theirs.”
