Sanibel Captiva Community Bank’s Mardi Gras Swim Team is Going for Gold

bjsEvents, Press Releases

Sanibel-Captiva Community Bank’s Gold Team devotes time to regular daily workouts. L to R: Kyle Decicco, Mona Strasser, Marilyn Kane, “Coach” Craig Albert, and Amy Vandenbrink ensure they are in peak swimming condition for the race.

Not only is Sanibel Captiva Community Bank the presenting sponsor of the 2017 Community Housing and Resources Mardi Gras event, their Gold Team will be returning to The Dunes’ pool at the February 11th event to once again go for gold, well….silver – the shiny 1st place silver trophy that will be awarded to the top team. The SanCap Bank Gold Team, comprised of several current and past bank employees and led by “Coach” and bank President Craig Albert, just missed clenching the win at last year’s event and are ready for redemption.

“We feel really good about our chances of winning the swim relay this year,” says Coach Albert. “We got robbed last year, and we are taking all of that fire and putting it into our training. We’ve been hitting the gym, swimming laps, getting into peak physical condition… We know there is a new purple team stepping up this year, and of course the San-Cap Trust green team will be back (with their cheaters), but we’re not worried. We wear gold because we’re the best. We will see them at the finish line.”
The rivalry and competition between Sanibel Captiva Community Bank’s Gold Team, San-Cap Trust’s Green Team and the soon-to-be-announced Purple Team is a Mardi Gras crowd favorite. Party-goers purchase colored beads at the event as a way to cast their vote for who they think will take home the trophy, and everyone who purchased the winning team’s beads is entered into the grand prize drawing – a trip for two to The Big Easy. In addition to the much-anticipated swim relay and raffle, Mardi Gras will feature a bourbon and cigar lounge, tarot card readings, music and dancing and much more. Join the fun!
