The generosity is three-fold as long-time Sanibel establishments Bailey’s General Store, Sanibel Catering Company, and Bailey’s TrueValue Hardware Store have all signed on as $5,000 “Fat Tuesday” sponsors of the 2017 Mardi Gras event on Feb. 11 at The Dunes Golf and Tennis Club.
“The entire ‘Bailey’s’ family has been some of the most important supporters of affordable workforce housing on Sanibel for a long time. We are so happy that once again Richard, his family, and their businesses have stepped up to be major sponsors of Mardi Gras,” said Arlene Dillon, Mardi Gras co-chair.
Running this trifecta of island businesses is a family affair and now, so is supporting CHR. Bailey’s owner/manager Richard Johnson has served as CHR board president since 2010 and the whole family gives their time and resources in various ways each year. Daughters Bailie and Calli not only work in the family businesses as well, they have embraced the Johnson family sense of philanthropy and volunteer on multiple Mardi Gras planning committees.
“Community Housing and Resources is an integral part of our community, providing workforce housing to island workers and their families,” said Johnson. “Through this organization we are better prepared to support our community, our guests and the place we all call home. As an island resident, business owner and part of a founding family, we support the benefits and diversity that CHR provides.”
Other island businesses are invited to join the fun and support CHR through a valuable event sponsorship. This year’s Mardi Gras event, coming up on Feb. 11 at The Dunes, will feature great food and drinks, music and dancing, the much-anticipated island celebrity swim relay, bourbon tasting lounge and much more.
