The Young Professionals Association of Sanibel and Captiva are bringing their fresh and infectious energy to Community Housing and Resources’ (CHR) 5th Annual Mardi Gras event. The “YoPros” are no strangers to CHR, with several of their members living in CHR housing and one of their well-attended social events having benefitted CHR in the past. As a collective group of young professionals working on the island, they recognize the need for affordable workforce housing perhaps more than most. This year’s Mardi Gras event will provide a distinct way for the group to give back to CHR, and it is a joint venture that is sure to be fun.

“The Young Professionals Association of Sanibel and Captiva is absolutely thrilled to be involved with this year’s CHR Mardi Gras fundraiser,” says Laura Richardson, Association President. “One of our main tenets involves supporting organizations on the island through service and philanthropy, so the event is the perfect fit for us. Some of our members live in CHR housing, so supporting CHR is incredibly important to us. Having affordable housing on island is vital for many young professionals to be able to work and grow on the island.”

The Young Professionals group will be spearheading the Mardi Gras event’s parade, which involves coordinating the parade route and participants, including a live marching band who will lead throngs of party goers to the pool area of The Dunes for the famed swim relay. Also in the YoPros repertoire that evening will be decking out custom golf carts for each of the three swim relay teams to proudly ride to the pool for their face-off.
