Community Housing and Resources (CHR) could not fulfill its mission of providing affordable housing on Sanibel without the help of its donors and supporters. CHR hosted their annual Supporters Soiree on Monday, January 16th as a small token of appreciation to their 2017 Mardi Gras sponsors as well as substantial donors from over the past few years.
Dr. and Mrs. Steve and Lena Brown generously opened up their home to nearly 60 of CHR’s generous friends for food, drinks and socializing. Esteemed guests included Mr. and Mrs. Al Hanser of Sanibel Captiva Trust Company who helped sponsor the soiree, Mayor Kevin Ruane and wife who is a volunteer on the Mardi Gras planning committee, Sanibel City Council member Jim Jennings and wife, and Mr. and Mrs. Craig Albert of Sanibel Captiva Community Bank, the 2017 Mardi Gras Presenting Sponsor. Many more of Sanibel’s most influential and philanthropic residents, including multiple members of Zonta and Kiwanis clubs, were also in attendance and came together for a memorable evening.
It was the important goal of CHR Board President Richard Johnson, as well as all CHR staff, Mardi Gras co-chairs and board members in attendance, to say a heartfelt thank you and to ensure their supporters know what a difference they are making in the lives of CHR residents, including nearly 50 children, over 25 senior citizens, 10 individuals with disabilities, and 60 more hard-working island employees. “There has been a groundswell of support among the leaders in this community and we are so pleased and excited to see that continued growth for CHR,” said Johnson. Whether gifts are received as Mardi Gras sponsorships, personal donations or grant funding, every dollar is invaluable to CHR’s mission and programs.
